Due to technical difficulties, I did not take notes at the time we played.
After defeating the Orc ambushers we followed their tracks back to a camp site near a wolf den. We saw tracks going into the wolf den and checked it out. There was a booby trap which I detected and disarmed and a few backpacks with nothing of particular interest or value. We followed another trail that left their campsite roughly headed toward the castle and meeting back up with the main trail.
Further down the trail I spotted an orc showing his head above the grass off to one side and then ducking down again about 500m away. Ghoral and Kross maneuvered into position and Kross knocked him out with two blunt arrows. We took him prisoner, still unconscious, and tied him to my horse.
Even further down the trail we approached a rise in the trail leading to a ridge. I spotted another orc, similar to the first standing beside the trail on ahead just down from the crest of the ridge. Kross dismounted and shot this one with two blunt arrows and it went down. We tied him to another horse.
I looked over the crest of the ridge and saw the trail continue down to a river. At the river was the burned out remains of what was once a ferry. On the other side of the river I saw the castle that we were heading for but it was clearly besieged by orcs and goblins. There were 4 camps, 1 goblin camp and 3 orc camps. Where the path reached the river, the river was just about at the mouth to the sea. There were cliffs at the sea on both sides of the river. The castle was near the cliffs and there didn’t appear to be orcs or goblins on that side of the castle.
After some discussion we decided to have Kross climb down the cliff on this side of the river, swim to the castle side and climb up the cliff and then climb into the castle to make contact with the people inside. From our briefing we expect there to be a young Lord who is loyal to the old Regent group as opposed to most of the other young lords that want to claim a new line of kings. With the young lord should be about 100 people with about 80 of them being soldiers.
As we walk along just below the ridge on the side away from the castle and orcs I take some opportunities to go up and look again. With a couple of good rolls I see that there are two trolls in the goblin camp and occasionally one will grab a goblin and throw him for no apparent reason.
At this point we think we want to heal one of our captive orcs enough to get him conscious so I can interrogate him. We are near or at the cliffs and still on the side of the ridge away from the castle.
