Do Over?

With some adjustment I was able to keep what I want for this character.

For the Hero System game we are to start soon, some stuff was pointed out and it got me to thinking about making a different character to play in the game. Some options are lacking in the game and I am thinking about filling some/most of them. The character type that would fit would be a Ranger with some range attack options. I was able to find out from the GM that the game will be played both in and out side the city. My new character would cover around 25% city and 75% wilderness. Be human. Would have Survival to cover multiple areas, some Boat use option, Tracking (at a little higher than normal), a overall bonus to cover all weapons (swords, bows, . . .), a Martial Art and maybe a horse animal companion.

For a power, it was talked about that I could go for a Missle Deflection that would cost 3 points and could be expand on.

We (me and the GM) talked about the possable new character for awhile after the board/card games were over. The more we talked about it, the more I could see me playing the new character or at least build the character and decide at a later time. With my vacation soon to begin, I have about two weeks to think over and build the new character before we start. Then I can decide on which to play.

More note to come as they pop into my head to be entered into this blog. Night.

Adjustments

To make the 150 building points (75 base/75 disads) I will need to cut a few corners.

Looks like to get to the needed point totals, I will have to lower some skills down or remove the all together.

I will be changing Acrobatics and Breakfall down to a Familiarity (8-) to keep them as a option and raise them later. One skill that looks to be removed is Teamwork, it is a good idea, but I need to cut some points. It could fit the character a bit too, not knowing the group to well. Again, this could be a skill that can be added back later.

With a sound out from the GM, I needed to make a adjustment to one of the disadvantages I had picked. It was said that Psychological Limitation: Doesn’t Know How To Relax And Have Fun (Uncommon; Moderate) and Psychological Limitation: Emotionally Cold And Distant (Common; Strong) were too alike. To add to my backstory (to be added soon) I changed the 5 point disadvantage to Physical Limitation: Cannot Remember His Childhood (Infrequently, Slightly).

These changes leaves me with 1 pt left to get a Language. I will we what can be adjusted to my power to get a point or two to expand my Language base.

One last was to choose a Professional Skill, one that looked like a fit I found here was:

Watchmen: an official at the castle responsible for security. Assited by lookouts (the garrison).

Changes

With the building of the character last week, I found myself 28 points over the total we had and the Martial Art option was not right for the character I was playing.

  1. I changed the Martial Art to a weapon based one for use with swords and staffs.
  2. Removed some skills that had gone with the previous Martial Art package.
  3. Lowered the Animal Handler (Felines) down to Familiarity (8-) and will then improve it with experience.

These changes will bring me near my target. I want to see if the power can be adjused down a little to save me from having to remove a skill I want. I will be taking to the GM this Friday and see what can be done to reach my target number.

The Power of a Power

Our GM limited our characters (during this building time) to one power. Spells are a little different, but that is not something I need to worry about.

The power that fit my character was:

Invisibility (Sight Sense Group, No Fringe)
Limitations: Chameleon

If I recall the power eats 6 to 7 END per Phase with my character  total END of 30.

I could get away with using it in the begining of a battle, but droping it soon after or taking a recovery durring one of my Phases to keep it active.

Ideas on my character

At this time I have a name for my character, a idea for the character type and a few notes.

Spent some time going over the books to make some choices. Not sure if I will be able to keep all that I noted. It all depends on what they add up to. We have a 75 base and 50 available in disadvantages.

Name: Kross

At work, I spotted a middle name of Cross on a file and though to myself, “That sounds like a good name for my character.” I want to change it a little, so I changed the “C” to a “K”.

Species: Pakasa (Cat-Folk)
Race: Dumawe (Cheetah-Folk)

I wanted something different than human and it fit the idea I had for my character

Class: Ranger (but a little different)

I was looking for a class type that dealt with tracking, information gatherering, stealth, Flora/Fauna and maybe poisons. As with most ideas with Ranger, they deal with the Bow for a distant shot. I was thinking of the up front and in you face approach with some Martial arts moves.

Characteristics:

  1. Main Focus: INT, CON, DEX
  2. Second Focus: STR
  3. Maybe Focus: EGO

Talent:

  • Lightsleep

Skills:

  1. Martial Arts
  2. Feline Bond: Animal Handler (Feline)
  3. Teamwork (with brother) ?
  4. Survival (local area of the game, Woodlands?)
  5. Stealth
  6. Climbing
  7. KS: Flora and Fauna
  8. Tracking
  9. WF: Common Melee Weapons
  10. KS: Poisons
  11. High Society
  12. Shadowing
  13. Streetwise

Powers: Some (see below)

I had a few in mind:

  • Invisibility (Sight Sense Group, No Fringe)
Limitations: Chameleon, Only When Not Attacking
  • Limited Flight/Leap
Limitations: Must Land At The End Of Each Phase, Self Only, Visible Effect (?)
  • Limited Telepathy (maybe)
Limitations: Felines only, Limited Range (?), Communication Only
  • Shock Attack (from hands)
Limitations: No Range or Limited Range, Restrainable, STUN Only
    Advantages: No Normal Defense

Disadvantages:

Working on my choices at this time.
