Adjustments

I have been informed (by the GM) that two of my disadvantages (see below) are alike/do not mix well and a different choice needs to be made.

Overly Cautious (Psychological)
Common, Moderate: 10 Points

Doesn’t Scare Easily (Psychological)
Common, Moderate: 10 Points

Will get switch out the Doesn’t Scare Easily with:

Weirdness Magnet (Social)
Infrequent, Greatly: 10 Points

Description: Strange things happen to and around this character.  This is not a truly threatening Disadvantage, but it is a continuous nuisance.  The character constantly finds himself dealing with odd circumstances and (relatively) odd people.

The short story of the background.

Here is the basic background that I came up with for my character Kross, to pass onto the GM to work into the story:

A few years ago Kross left his home city of Utahsa and roamed around. He headed north looking to work on his maps and to survive off the land. During this time Kross witnessed some strange and odd things in the wilds of Mitharia. Reaching water, for the experience and for passage across The Serpentine Sea to the Westerlands, Kross worked on a large ship for some time. Reaching land Kross lost himself to practice his skills for a time.

The second time around

With the choice of redoing my character, I need to make some choices for different disadvantages that better fit the different direction I went on.

Tattoo (Distinctive Feature) - Clan Symbol
Easily Concealed, Noticed And Recognizable, Commonly Used Senses: 5 Points

Hatred of Orcs and Goblins (Psychological)
Common; Strong: 15 Points

Doesn’t Know How To Relax And Have Fun (Psychological)
Uncommon, Moderate: 5 Points

Obnoxious Drunk (Social)
Occasionally, Minor: 5 Points

His Word Is His Bond (Psychological)
Uncommon, Total: 15 Points

Overly Cautious (Psychological)
Common, Moderate: 10 Points

Doesn’t Scare Easily (Psychological)
Common, Moderate: 10 Points

Official Reprimand (Social) - from Lord Palatine Markerric
Occasionally, Minor: 5 Points

Recurring Nightmares (Psychological)
Uncommon, Moderate: 5 Points
At the Moderate level, he is cranky, upset, and generally disturbed by the dreams, but suffers no significant side affect from them.

These are the ones that look and best fit for the idea of the character I had.

Working on the numbers

The numbers were a little off when I email the GM my Stats and Skills. Some little changes and all should be good. It going to be a Ranger with some traveling experience.

The current disadvantages are the ones from the previous version of the character and need to be updated for Kross 2.0 character.

The next item that needs to be done is, with the disadvantages, I need to come up with a good backstory to weave the plot around.

I like what I am thinking.

I have given it some time. I have started to write down some skills. I have added up some totals and the numbers look good.

I thinking the Pakasa (Cat-Folk) was a phase. Something different. The character is done, but I am going to go a slightly different direction with the new character.

I had wanted to a Ranger type character from the beginning, but ended up taking a left turn at Albuquerque. From where the character is from and where we start the game, there is a large distance between them and a body of water or two. I was thinking of a traveling Ranger, with multiple areas the Survival Skill (including Water). I will also be using a Martial Art for use with or with out a weapon for up close combat and a bow for the range attacks. One option I found that looks like it be of use is the Fast Draw Skill with a bow, if I make the roll I can do a half move and fire my bow in the same phase (can you say moving target). I will be filling in a few of the areas that the other player do not have or have the basics of.

I have about two weeks till the start of the new game. It should be enough to finish the character and be ready for the plot to begin.

At this time I am still taking notes of the skills that would work for my character and reviewing the Hero System books.

Time will tell how the character will turn out.

Do Over?

With some adjustment I was able to keep what I want for this character.

For the Hero System game we are to start soon, some stuff was pointed out and it got me to thinking about making a different character to play in the game. Some options are lacking in the game and I am thinking about filling some/most of them. The character type that would fit would be a Ranger with some range attack options. I was able to find out from the GM that the game will be played both in and out side the city. My new character would cover around 25% city and 75% wilderness. Be human. Would have Survival to cover multiple areas, some Boat use option, Tracking (at a little higher than normal), a overall bonus to cover all weapons (swords, bows, . . .), a Martial Art and maybe a horse animal companion.

For a power, it was talked about that I could go for a Missle Deflection that would cost 3 points and could be expand on.

We (me and the GM) talked about the possable new character for awhile after the board/card games were over. The more we talked about it, the more I could see me playing the new character or at least build the character and decide at a later time. With my vacation soon to begin, I have about two weeks to think over and build the new character before we start. Then I can decide on which to play.

More note to come as they pop into my head to be entered into this blog. Night.

Adjustments

To make the 150 building points (75 base/75 disads) I will need to cut a few corners.

Looks like to get to the needed point totals, I will have to lower some skills down or remove the all together.

I will be changing Acrobatics and Breakfall down to a Familiarity (8-) to keep them as a option and raise them later. One skill that looks to be removed is Teamwork, it is a good idea, but I need to cut some points. It could fit the character a bit too, not knowing the group to well. Again, this could be a skill that can be added back later.

With a sound out from the GM, I needed to make a adjustment to one of the disadvantages I had picked. It was said that Psychological Limitation: Doesn’t Know How To Relax And Have Fun (Uncommon; Moderate) and Psychological Limitation: Emotionally Cold And Distant (Common; Strong) were too alike. To add to my backstory (to be added soon) I changed the 5 point disadvantage to Physical Limitation: Cannot Remember His Childhood (Infrequently, Slightly).

These changes leaves me with 1 pt left to get a Language. I will we what can be adjusted to my power to get a point or two to expand my Language base.

One last was to choose a Professional Skill, one that looked like a fit I found here was:

Watchmen: an official at the castle responsible for security. Assited by lookouts (the garrison).

Changes

With the building of the character last week, I found myself 28 points over the total we had and the Martial Art option was not right for the character I was playing.

  1. I changed the Martial Art to a weapon based one for use with swords and staffs.
  2. Removed some skills that had gone with the previous Martial Art package.
  3. Lowered the Animal Handler (Felines) down to Familiarity (8-) and will then improve it with experience.

These changes will bring me near my target. I want to see if the power can be adjused down a little to save me from having to remove a skill I want. I will be taking to the GM this Friday and see what can be done to reach my target number.
